New LongArm

My new LongArm.  It is a 22" Gammill Vision.  I love the way it stitches.  It was very hard to sell my Gammill Classic Plus.  I used it for 14 years.  It also has a beautiful stitch. The new one will take some getting used to.  it does have a few stitch capabilities my other Gammill did not have.

So much has happened over the last few months.  I have traveled to see my kids, traveled to co teach with a friend and have gone to a couple of retreats with friends.  Still working on My series TownSquare.  Started a few new fun projects.  The top two are fun projects.  A small quilt and a table runner.  The one below is a new Town Square.

It has been a very long time since I have posted.  I am taking a Masterclass from Lisa Call. I am learning how to move my art forward and go down the path I would like to follow.  One thing I have not learned yet is how to say no.  I need to start saying no to things that get in my way of my goals.  We are brought up as girls to think of others first, we are made to feel that it is not okay to put your ideas first.  I am finally learning it is okay to put my goals first.  Over the next few months I hope to start posting more regularly and posting work in progress.

Liberated Log Cabin

I have been working a lot more with solids, this seems to be my favorite way to work lately.  This has been on my design wall for a few days and I think it says time to assemble.  I love the contrast of the solids, I like the way the colors play off each other and the black fabrics.

Laura Wasilowski Retreat

Laura was the featured speaker at our Quilt Guild last week.  We also had a weekend retreat with Laura, what fun!!!  There were about 40 of us. I am posting a few pictures of the start of three projects that also will be the first there of a small series. I uses a piece of Laura's Hand dyed fabric and the rest is my own hand dyed fabric.  I also used one batik.  I love the richness of the hand dyed fabrics.

June

The flowers in the pond this year are very pretty,  I am taken with the colors.
This is one of our newer plants, it is a lotus, the flowers are large and so are the leaves.
The yellow one is on of our original plants, the color is very saturated.

Hand Dyed Fabrics from a Class with Frieda Anderson

Here are the fabrics I hand dyed in a class with Frieda Anderson.  This class was offered by Quilting Adventures in Texas.  We stayed at the beautiful Jordan Ranch in Schuelenburg Texas.  I also dyed silk ribbons and a rayon Jacket.  What fun and learned a lot.  Frieda is a great teacher.

Catch Up Time

I have just finished up a class with Lisa Call.   The class is Working in a Series.  OMG what a great teacher and a wonderful class.  Lisa is nurturing, very giving of her knowledge, and very inspirational.  The class format is wonderful, the critiques are informative, the emails are so full of informations and it is a treat to be introduced to 3 artists per week. Here are my projects for my series "Town Square"
A week ago  I went with 2 friends to Jordan Ranch in Texas and took a Hand Dyeing class with Frieda Anderson.  I thin I hand dyed around 33-35 yards of fabric.  We also did some discharging. Frieda is a wonderful teacher. Now maybe I will have a little more control over my colors, and hopefully produce more vibrant colors.  Here is one of the discharged fabrics I worked on.  I will post more pics of the fabric later.

We also went to Cleveland Ohio to see our daughter graduate from Cleveland State University.  We are so proud of Michelle, she graduated with top honors and was one of three highlighted students.

Today's Waterlilies

Todays Water lilies are really pretty today.  They must like the hot temperatures.  We rarely have this many open at once.  Notice the net, we have had visits from Herons and we have lost one fish.  The Herons keep coming back but with the net and a decoy hopefully the fish are protected,

Online class with Katie Pasquini Masopaust

I am about halfway through a online class with KatiePM and boy have I learned a lot about composition and layout..  Katie has been teaching art principles, which is good for me because I am self taught with my art.  This is a fun experience.  We receive a new lesson about every 2 weeks and we have 2 weeks to complete a project.  I would definitely take another online class.  These 2 pictures are 2 of my projects for the class.

Looking Back and Looking Forward

I have seen a few postings about accomplishments for 2012 and looking forward to 2013.  Every year I usually set a few goals for my art.  8 years ago I set up a very sketchy 10 year plan.  At that time we lived in Missouri where we had lived for 30 years. We now live in Oklahoma. who knew?  I seem to be on track with my 10 year plan.
For 2012 I did accomplish most of my goals.  I even had to deal with low thyroid and NO energy and we moved.  Despite the two stumbling blocks I did manage to create 4 medium to large pieces, 4 small, 21 8"x10" journal quilts, 23 hand dyed scarves and several yards of painted and or hand dyed fabrics. Some of these can be seen on my FLICKR page, my user name is Debr33. http://www.flickr.com/photos/debr33/.  I have also learned to use my Sketchbooks alot more. I have also started a Sketchbook Challenge with the Missouri  Fiber Artist.  I absoulutly love working with paper now.
For 2013  I really hope to create 5 new pieces that I really thought would be finished by now.  I intend on keeping up with the Sketchbook Challenge.  I also have in my goals to make 2 more challenge pieces for the Playdate group I am in.  I also want to start seriously working on UFO's. In our Fiber Artists of Oklahoma group we are creating a 12x12 monthly inspired by a word. I also hope to do alot more with Surface Design, hand dyeing fabric, and fabric painting.
HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!!!!
