Currents Exhibit in May at the Vine Gallery
This is a picture of juror Bob Adams giving a talk & awards at the Currents Exhibit at the Vine Gallery in lake of the Ozarks. Shown are two of my pieces BrushStrokes and Sedona Redrocks.
The exhibit was comprised of selected works from members of the Missouri Fiber Artists.
This was in May and the first time I met most of the artists, it was a great conference. I took a class with Victoria Crowder Payne.

Empty Spools at Asilomar
I just finished 5 days at Empty Spools. I had a wonderful class with Jean Wells Keenan. Jean is very talented and a great teacher. The projects in the class were amazing, and the talents in the room were very inspiring. My trip via airlines has been very unpleasant. My trip to Monterey California took 14 hours, should have only taken about 6 hours which is bad enough, but wait it got worse, my luggage didn't arrive until the next day, lucky for me my cousin and friend was there and loaned me what I needed. Imagine starting a 5 day class with borrowed everything. All my inspiration photos were in my suitcase and not with me. Thanks to Suzanne Cox, one of the directors of Empty Spools Seminars went to the Monterey Airport and picked up my luggage. Shame on the airlines for just letting it sit, airlines certainly have forgotten what cutomer service is. I think we all need to send a message with how we spend our dollars.

Co-Exist Exhibit
This is my entry that was juried in to the Co-Exist Exhibit at All Souls Unitarian Church in Tulsa,OK.This was a challenge with the subject of Co-Exist. I used black and white, darkest in upper left to whitest in lower right. This is to show that these represents the extremes of non tolerance and everything in between the alternating black and white stands for the co-existing in our daily lives. This is in the form of family, friends,co-workers,neighbors and nature. There are also charms to represent hope, peace, and new beginnings. The fraying edges represent the stresses that sometimes occur with co-existing.

Weekly Journal Quilt Challenge
I have joined a weekly quilt challenge. I have completed the first four. This has been a good way to get ideas flowing. I chose the the size 8 x 10 to work with. There are 20 of us in this group. Working in this small size is wonderful for trying out new ideas.

Katie Pasquini Masopust's New Book
I received my copy of Katie's new book. My quilt named BrushStrokes is in Katie's book on page 46. I also quilted my cousins quilt on page 37 titled Shadows. Katie's techniques for producing original artwork is really great. The techniques for constructiong the quilt produces a good likeness of the artwork. I absolutely love the end product. Alot of my classmates have quilts in the book.

Surface Design
This month we used leaves as a mask and sprayed bleach water over the leaves. We used foam snow flakes and sprayed the blach water over the shape then neutralized with a viegar water mixture. We used apples and pears dipped in toilet bowl cleaner to stamp on the fabric, we also used bleach pens and drew on the fabric. Some also used discharge paste to screen shapes onto the fabric.

FiberWorks2011-Tulsa,OK
FiberWorks started on Friday June 3rd and will continue until June23,2011. The show is juried by the piece. I am thrilled to have 2 pieces in the show. My quilt BrushStrokes was awarded Best in Quilting that was sponsored by the Edmond Quilt Guild. I also have a smaller silk wallhanging (Sticks & Stones) in the show. If you are in Tulsa the show is at Living Arts of Tulsa on Brady St. There are many wonderful pieces in the show. The show is comprised of the works of Oklahoma Artists. Our juror this year was Jane Dunnewold. What a treat to work with Jane and others in the jury process for the show and to be a scribe for the critique. What a learning experience. The show is arranged in the space very nicely.

Class at Empty Spools
Two weeks ago I took my first class at Asilomar with Empy Spools Seminars. What a great week. I made a new friend with my roommate Tanya from Fresno. My table mate in class was a delightful lady named Elaine from the UK. My class was with Sue Benner, I have wanted to take a class with Sue for several years. I was on a waiting list and got in the class. I learned alot about perspective in landscape quilts. I will post a photo of the first days little quilts and a picture or two of Asilomar. The picture on the left are the first 2 small quilts they are on the left, the photos for inspiration are on the right.

Green Country Quilt Guild Show
The Green Country Quilt Guild Show was this weekend. What a wonderful show. It was spacious and roomy. There was the best diverse collection of quilts, lots of original work. I have been to lots of quilt shows and this by far was the best. Kudos to the Quilt Show Committee and the sponsors of the show.
On a personal note I was excited to see my quilt "Woodstock Revisited" with a blue ribbon and a judges ribbon. My challenge quilt "Crazy Quilt" earned a second place, my red jacket "LadyBug" earned a third place, and my small quilt "My Pond earned a honorable mention.
