Looking Back and Looking Forward

I have seen a few postings about accomplishments for 2012 and looking forward to 2013.  Every year I usually set a few goals for my art.  8 years ago I set up a very sketchy 10 year plan.  At that time we lived in Missouri where we had lived for 30 years. We now live in Oklahoma. who knew?  I seem to be on track with my 10 year plan.
For 2012 I did accomplish most of my goals.  I even had to deal with low thyroid and NO energy and we moved.  Despite the two stumbling blocks I did manage to create 4 medium to large pieces, 4 small, 21 8"x10" journal quilts, 23 hand dyed scarves and several yards of painted and or hand dyed fabrics. Some of these can be seen on my FLICKR page, my user name is Debr33. http://www.flickr.com/photos/debr33/.  I have also learned to use my Sketchbooks alot more. I have also started a Sketchbook Challenge with the Missouri  Fiber Artist.  I absoulutly love working with paper now.
For 2013  I really hope to create 5 new pieces that I really thought would be finished by now.  I intend on keeping up with the Sketchbook Challenge.  I also have in my goals to make 2 more challenge pieces for the Playdate group I am in.  I also want to start seriously working on UFO's. In our Fiber Artists of Oklahoma group we are creating a 12x12 monthly inspired by a word. I also hope to do alot more with Surface Design, hand dyeing fabric, and fabric painting.
HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!!!!

These are painted papers that are in progress.  There will be more layering on these pages.  These papers will be used in a handmade journal for the sketchbook challenge for the Missouri Fiber Artists.  This has been fun and a totally new thing for me to try.

Empty Spools at Asilomar

I just finished 5 days at Empty Spools.  I had a wonderful class with Jean Wells Keenan.  Jean is very talented and a great teacher.  The projects in the class were amazing, and the talents in the room were very inspiring.  My trip via airlines has been very unpleasant.  My trip to Monterey California took 14 hours, should have only taken about 6 hours which is bad enough, but wait it got worse, my luggage didn't arrive until the next day, lucky for me my cousin and friend was there and loaned me what I needed.  Imagine starting a 5 day class with borrowed everything.  All my inspiration photos were in my suitcase and not with me. Thanks to Suzanne Cox, one of the directors of Empty Spools Seminars went to the Monterey Airport and picked up my luggage.  Shame on the airlines for just letting it sit, airlines certainly have forgotten what cutomer service is.  I think we all need to send a message with how we spend our dollars.

Co-Exist Exhibit

This is my entry that was juried in to the Co-Exist Exhibit at All Souls Unitarian Church in Tulsa,OK.This was a challenge with the subject of Co-Exist.  I used black and white, darkest in upper left to whitest in lower right.  This is to show that these represents the extremes of non tolerance and everything in between the alternating black and white stands for the co-existing in our daily lives.  This is in the form of family, friends,co-workers,neighbors and nature.  There are also charms to represent hope, peace, and new beginnings. The fraying edges represent the stresses that sometimes occur with co-existing.
